In this class, we had a look at everyone's type specimen screen and gave opinions on what we think is good, or could change to make better. I was very nervous about this as I did not know if my specimen screen would meet the standards of others in the class.

For my final specimen screens I choose the three below to be examined and judged by the rest of the class. I was happy with the chosen screens however I knew there could be improvements made.

Kyle gave me some advice on what was good, what was bad, and what needed slight improvement. A common mistake I made was not having text lined up, I will use a grid to make sure the text is perfectly lined up when I was correcting my screens. This really made my screens look more professional and neat.

Another piece of advice Kyle gave was to start to add a bit of colour, I never inserted colour to begin with as the Typeface is classy and elegant and thought colour would make it look messy, however I don't think its a bad idea to test out some simple colour such as red.

Kyle added that he liked the right typeface specimen screen the most, which was also my favourite, he thought I could improve on this one by adjusting the “B” to make it more visible. I will implement all these ideas into my second version. I also got some feedback from the class.

I really appreciated others in the class giving me their opinion as I like to know different points of view. I repositioned the words in “B” to make it more visually appealing, I would not of noticed this if feedback wasn't given so I am glad we went through and discussed our typeface posters as a class.

I decided not to add colour into my original designs as I thought that colour would make it look unprofessional and not as classical, however I did make a couple more type specimen screens with colour that I think look very classy.

I used red as I think this is a very classy and elegant colour, compared to other colours such as luminous pink or yellow, a dark red is much more suited to this typeface. This gives the typeface a bit more creativity in my opinion.

Overall, I think this class has been very successful and has been really helpful. I was not confident in my first attempt at designing the poster, however after getting some feedback I realised what I needed to change. I was quite nervous as I thought that my designs weren't as good as some of the others, but I learned that constructive criticism works! I am much more happy with my designs now then I was for my first few designs.
