This week we looked at working in UX, the roles we could be working in and what we could be doing.


Job Roles

Although there are multiple roles within UX, all the roles are very similar and pretty much the same. There are areas within these jobs that vary, including research and design sectors.

Class Task

For our task we were asked to get into groups and go onto LinkedIn, pick a job listing and create sticky notes for each of the requirements, qualifications, and skills needed by the company. Then use affinity mapping to group similar skills together and summarise the main skills required for a user experience (UX) designer. Below is the sticky notes we came up with.

Where We Work?

Software Development

Product Based - A company that focuses on selling physical goods or digital products.

Consultancy Based - A company that provides a services or consulting services, eg. specialised expertise and advice to clients for a fee. They design and build software for other companies but don't now the final product.

Types of Product

Freelance - Individual who works independently on a project by project basis for multiple clients, rather than being employed by a company.
