This week we had a critique week, where we went over each of our AV dashboards so far. I was nearly finished my AV so I was pretty confident in my work.

Below is the boards for the critique, I was not 100% finished therefore I was expecting to be told to finish these. I was aware of certain tiles such as the Car details as it stands out from the other tiles in a bad way.

While my lecture was going through my screens classmates were also allowed to leave some notes under this board. Below is what they have left. This extra feedback was super helpful and the multiple positive feedback I received made me feel more confident about my work.

I was told the consistency throughout the screens was great and the colour seemed to work well. He advised I make a few changes such as changing the tone of voice of some sections such as Tap here to Start Ride” to Start Here as it can be misleading.

One stand out problem was the Car Details section, I had a problem with the layout with this tile so I want suprised when this was brought up. He advised I make it smaller as it is taking up a lot of room. I moved about the routes and made the tile smaller and increased the size of the map as this was the most important tile for the user. Below is the screen after I made the Adjustments.

I was also told about the slider feature I had on my controls screen, he said this may cause an incoveinace to the user as in a car it is usually bumpy and may be hard to control the slider to the position you want it to sit. It was suggested that a feature where you can just tap to the position you want. Although, I do agree with this and it may be hard to keep control of the slider I do think it makes more sense to use a slider for the psotions of seats and windows.

Lastly, I was asked about the icons on the control screen, it wasn't clear what these icons meant which should be clear to the user. I will continue to work on this to improve the communication of this screen.

After I made all the changes this is how my screens turned out all together. I am very happy with how it looks, I believe it looks modern and intuitive for the user. I also am happy with all the features that make up the brand itself.

All that I have to complete now is the Brand name and opening screen, I left this to the very last as in previous projects I tend to get stuck on this step and it slowly down the whole process. I really resonated with this quote I found below.

“I think most artists feel a lot happier discussing the process of what they do rather than what the hell it means. I know so many painters who title their works after they have done them, which is a real giveaway’ - David Bowie

Overall, I found this class extremely helpful, before the critique I wasn't sure if my screens were missing something to tie it all together. After both my lecture and classmates gave both positive and constructive feedback I was able to improve my screens and now I feel like it has a a consistent and stable flow throughout the screens.

I feel like whenever I am feeling unsure about my work and stuck I need constructive criticism to get me back into a productive mindset and be able to start making decisions again. It helps you start asking yourself questions such as “are they right?”, “should I make the adjustment they are suggesting?” etc. This then creates the need to make a decision, even if you think that your original idea is better suited it is allowing you to question it, which could lead to moe ideas and envitably you are improving your work.
