During this lecture we were taught about photography and imaging, we looked at how we can use these in our brand to make it more appealing to users
We had looked at photography last semester, and were made aware of the “rules” of photography eg rule of thirds, the first ever photo, first photo with colour etc.
We looked at some brands that implement photography in their advertising, the photography matches the aesthetic of the brand which increases the personality of the brand towards users/customers. The use of good photography and imaging can really boost a businesses success. Below are two local brands that use great photography that reflects the brands personality/ identity. The use of photography and advertising is a huge part of their brand and because of this customers appreciate it and are attracted to brands that put effort into not just the physical but social aspect of the business. This type of branding is very unique as the images reflect the brand they add interests and attractiveness which makes them successful. To maintain a brand personality photography, imaging, style must be consistent, and also coherent to the brand.
Photography can also be used for so much more than attractiveness, they can be extremely useful and information. Brands may use photography for information purposes such as Apple who use photography to illustrate the size of their products. Photographs can also be communicative to the user such as just showing the product itself, car companies do this well as they can show speed, size, colour, purpose in their branding.
However, branding can go wrong if not done correctly, many brands have failed at photography and imaging which may determent their success, and those who use the brand may not want to continue as they aren't putting enough effort into branding which can seem unprofessional.
Aesthetic usability effect is when a product/ service looks good and is presented so well that the user believes the product will work better, even if it is less efficient. The presentation and photography of the product or service is crucial for branding.
To ensure the maximum impact of photography and imaging on your brand it is important to ensure the quality of the image is the highest it can be, the shows professionalism and just makes the overall brand look better. There are some things that we must consider when choosing images, colour and all things design, which is users with colour blindness or defects in their eyes, which can alter what they are seeing and the colours they are seeing. The branding must be accessible to all users, so colours that I choose for my brand must be chosen carefully, considering colour blind users.
Overall, I thought this week was really interesting, I love photography and also do some photography as a hobby so learning that we can implement this into our brand was really exciting. I also never thought that photography could have such an impact of successfulness, with creating brand personalities and an aesthetic can really boost your brand. I also never thought that photography could provide as much as it does, such as context, information etc. In my music app I want to incorporate a certain style of photography, I want this photography to create a specific effect for the user, I will be looking into photography more and deciding on the photos I want to use in my app.
