In todays lesson we looked at logomarks. Logomarks can be used by a brand to appeal to the audience, it creates a brand personality. We also looked at the difference between a word and logomark.
To start the class we did an exercise where we had to present our initials and an animal of our choice using only shapes. We had to use geometrical shapes such as a circle, square, rectangle, triangle. Below is what I have created with these shapes, I decided to use two circles and three rectangles to create my initials, this task was extremely easy and only took a couple minutes due to the lack of shapes used. I used a range of triangles, circles and rectangles to create a peacock, this took a very long time and was very multiplex I think I created an animal with too much detail however creating an animal with just shapes is a lot harder than I thought.
When a trademark is used to identify an organisation it works together with other graphic elements in a design programme, each part of the plan for a visual identity. Through this a company can inform people who it is, how it is, or how it wants to be seen.
A wordmark logo is a logo that is only the use of letters that feature the name of a business. There is no images or icons included, some of the most famous brands have this as their logo.
A Logomark is a logo that includes an image or symbol. For example, Nikes swoosh.
A Pictorial logo is similar to a logomark however, it includes a logo made of graphics that could represent the brand name or function, this could be an icon, illustration or shape compositions that can be recognised as something specific. A pictorial logo can be more memorable than a word. An example is the twitter logo.
A Monogram logo is a unique design made up of only letters to create a symbol, for example, Chanel.
An Abstract logo can be a symbol or image but made up of complex or geometrical shapes that reflect the brand, for example, Mastercard.
