For this weeks lecture we looked at illustration and some of the best illustrators in the industry. We were able to see how illustrations can impact a brand creatively and positively. We looked at different styles of illustrations to help develop our music app.
We were asked to recreate a music app interface to practise illustrating icons for our own music app. Below is my attempt at recreating these images, I found this task super helpful and I have a better idea for how my app design is going to be layed out, the colours, icons that will be used and the typefaces that will work.
Oli is an English graphic artist who is best known for his creative movie posters. His work really stood out to me as I love movie posters, he has done posters for Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney, Studio Ghibu and many more. I really like his style of illustration as he keeps the style from the movie and incorporates this into his movie posters.
Another illustrator that stood out for me was Peter Strain, from Belfast. His illustrations are portraits that range from films, influential people, singers, books etc. what stood out to me was his posters have meaning and almost tell a story without explaining it using words. He likes to illustrate social, political issues that can be seen as controversial or bold.
Marion is a British illustrator and author, Marion is best known for her hand drawn illustrations and style of hand lettering. She writes and illustrates books for children and adults. Her style of illustration is so unique and recognisable, she also creates paintings of animals using her hand. I really love her style of art as it is fun, eye catching and friendly.
Overall, I thought this class was a useful, I really enjoyed learning about illustrators and different styles that they used, I have seen some of the movie posters before so it was really interesting to learn who illustrated them. Illustrating is something I really enjoy doing and I have always wanted to incorporate some illustrations into my work which I am really excited about.
The master apprentice task was extremely useful because now I have a better understanding of how my homepage will be layed out and the importance of spacing and use of colour. In some of my sketches the homepage and play screen are quite crowed with text and icons, now after recreating another apps screen I have more understanding of a music apps layout and understand that to much text or icons going on in one page my be confusing and unattractive. I also noticed the use of curved esges on the screens thios may be something I will use in my own app.
