Today we looked at Design and Strategy and some strategy's used my websites to draw more users in. We also looked at different ways brands can trick us for their own benefit.
As a class, we completed a Frame your Design Challenge to really look into the problems we are working on. It allows us to ask ourselves questions such as “Does my challenge drive toward ultimate impact, take into account context and constraints, and allow for a variety of potential solutions?”. These questions will allow us to analyse our problem, refine anything not needed and scope out if it is suitable and something we are passionate about. By completing this we are aiming to come to a great solution.
Using “How Might We” Questions to Ideate on the Right Problems
I had a look at HUDS+GUIS website, on this website it looks st futuristic Heads Up Displays and Graphical user interface elements. They offer lots of helpful tools that will help me come up with ideas and explore the idea of others. Some of the articles that catch my eye are the AR and VR project prototypes that look into convenience of not carrying a device about and just having a wearable device such as contacts to complete technological actions.
I decided to look into off boarding as it is something I am not very familiar with. In previous projects I have made onboarding screens and think they are a great way to ease first time users into the app. However, off boarding I didn't know much about. It is usually when a user wants to delete their account off a website or mailing list. I actually recently did this off a couple of social media apps and took me around an hour to find the button to delete it. I also had to do a couple google searches to find the delete account button. Obviously the company does not want you to delete their app therefore it is quite hidden
Adobe: The Psychology of User Offboarding
Dark Patterns are when companies create deceptive patterns on a user interface to trick users into doing something, that will mostly likely benefit them. Such as buying a more expensive alternative or signing up for consistent annoying emails. This can be done by using consistent buttons to psychologically trick the user to pressing the button. This is something I will be avoiding as this can really irritate users and cause mistrust, also I just think this is quite unethical.
Deceptive Patterns - Hall of Shame
Overall, this class felt very productive and a step in the right direction. Before this class I felt slightly behind and unsure of what steps to take next as I wasn't sure if I had completed enough research to move on to creating personas. However, after class I felt like I have a steady direction to follow and am going to continue my research while completing different methods that will improve my final idea.
