For this project we have been asked to create a Tender Document, or UX Proposal before undertaking work, this helps manage expectations and provide some legal protection. The job in question is the design of a digital experience / touch points and a brand to represent the Titanic Quarter.

What is a Tender Proposal?

Tenders are detailed documents used to describe how you would do a job and a proposed price for the price of work. It must include a plan for the delivery of the service/ product. They are used by a seller who wants to provide goods, works or services at a specific price to a buyer who could be investors, potential suppliers, customers, or organisations. They are commonly used for construction projects, government plans, service contracts like cleaning and supply contract.

What is the purpose?

The purpose of a tender proposal is to communicate how a seller will deliver a contract and to convince a buyer to select the company for the work. It is used for protection of the seller and ensures they are getting payed exactly what they are owed. UX Designers or any Digital Designers who are creating a digital product for a buyer should use these tender proposals to show professionally, project protection like design rights, better client relationships, growth, and project success.

Titanic Quarter Research

Titanic Quarter is Europe's largest urban regeneration projects, it seamlessly blends the city's industrial heritage with modern development.

Today, the Titanic Quarter houses a mix of offices, homes, restaurants, and leisure venues. The area has evolved into a bustling business district and tourist destination, drawing visitors with its waterfront location and Belfast's growing cultural scene.

The area is undergoing major development, with new hotels, office spaces, and public amenities in the works. The ongoing transformation of Belfast's waterfront carefully balances preserving historical elements while creating a vibrant urban space.

In summary, the Titanic Quarter represents a seamless blend of past and present—a place where the historic legacy of the Titanic exists alongside modern urban renewal and cultural energy.

Visiting Titanic Quarter

I took a walk around Titanic Quarter just to get a bit of inspiration and ideas flowing for what I wanted my tender proposal to be about. I found a infographic map, which easily shows a birds eye view of the different areas inside this quarter.

From walking around this area I actually had forgotten how much history and significance it had, especially the dock area and obviously the Harland & Wolff Cranes. These cranes used to apart of a shipyard, where the Titanic was built in the early 20th century. This area was extremely important, the Belfast Docks improved and made Belfast the important city it is today. In the 1800s and early 1900s, the Belfast docks had a major role in the world of industrial business, where ships were constructed and goods were traded with other countries. Without these docks, Belfast would not have the name it has today.

I had also visited a few parks and areas in East Belfast which is just surrounding the Titanic Quarter such as Great Victoria Park and Newtownards road, i explored a tight-knit community with lots of facilities and murals commemorating different lives that where from Belfast. I was shocked at how this place isn't advertised and visited as much! There was a small park dedicated to CSS Lewis, who wrote The Narnia Chronicles, including “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” with statues of the main characters from this. Another area that wasn't busy at all and isn't shown to visitors as much as other areas even though Narnia is one of the most successful movies of all time! Throughout this, I noticed there were many kiosks providing interesting facts and information about these areas which is something I will keep in mind.

There was also monuments and murals dedicated to the dock workers who worked at the Belfast docks situated within the Titanic quarter. These memorials tell the story and lives of those from thsi area that have gone to become extremely successful such as Van Morrison, and regular working class people who worked incredibly hard in the shipyards. These roles were dangerous both mentally and physically, with the men exposed to potential accidents and working long hours with low pay. These workers were a massive factor to Belfast’s Industrial success, which these tight communities show their appreiciation for. It is also great to see murals and monuments in cities as they usually tell an important story dedicated to the city which exposes tourists to the history.
