For this project, we will be creating a CV, Cover Letter, and Portfolio. This will be extremely helpful during placement and future career opportunities.
CV stands for Curriculum Vitae, usually a short overview of your education, skills, work experience, achievements and references. A CV is used for applying for a job, the employer will look at your CV to decide whether they think you suit the company and compare the CV to others applying.
I decided to look for examples of UX CV’s for inspiration before I started sketching my ideas down, I looked on the internet for this. I had an idea of how I wanted to lay it out, the two column layout seemed really appealing to me.
Something that I am keeping in mind is my lack of experience. For A-Levels, ICT was the only related subject to the course and as I have no awards or achievements relevant, my CV will be short. I will be looking through some inspiration that will be similar to my situation.
This CV caught my eye when scrolling past, I thought it looked eager and professional, I like the simplicity and how straight to the point it is. However, as a designer I do want to showcase a smidge of personality such as a personal logo or colour. This CV also seemed to fit a lot of information into one page which would be appealing to employers.
I really liked this CV also due to simplicity, I think the layout looks great and the personalisation of the “g” is something that I think I could include in my CV, I think this makes the CV stand out. I also like the slight pink they have used for the background, it is very subtle but noticeable. I'm not sure if this would be appropriate to do however I still like the idea.
I also think the typeface is lovely for titles, however as the text gets smaller it may become harder to read which is something I will keep in mind.
Lastly, this CV seemed interesting to me, I love the black contrast including the shorter information. I think this makes the shorter information equally as eye-catching as the more useful information such as experience and personal summary.
Something that I won’t be including in my CV however is a photograph, I believe this is an American CV which is mandatory to include their photo. This is not the case in the UK as it can be used as discrimination against someone applying.
Previously I have made CVs for part time jobs in the past. The CV that I have most recently used is shown below. This CV was for jobs that had not to do with interaction design, majority being part time jobs. This CV is slightly unprofessional and too colourful, however I think the layout looks well.
In the first week we were asked to write a CV for the next week. I used Word to write up my CV, this was the easiest option as I can just copy and paste the text into In Design after putting it through CV360. Then I can start the layout and designing process. Below is what I came up with, I may tweak this if it doesn't pass CV360.
After writing my CV, I was asked to put it through CV360, a helpful tool to enhance your CV, ensuring it is ready to submit to the employer. The target was to get above 85%,
After making the changes it had said I had made, I came out with 95%. I had to dismiss some checks as it was a Word Document and couldn't scan for a few formats.
